Young Adults Group ‘The Language of the Church’ Talks

The Young Adults Group will meet again Tuesday, 15th October for our talks on ‘The Language of the Church. Fr. Chris Doig will speak on ‘Mary: Queen of Heaven.’ All those between the ages of 18-35 are welcome to the weekly meetings. As usual, we meet at 63 York Place at 7:00pm for teas/coffees and for the talk at 7.30pm, followed by a short group discussion. Each session concludes with Night Prayer and the chance to meet up at a local pub. Come along!

Register Today with Society of St. Vincent de Paul

Please pick up a registration form from any of the Society of St Vincent de Paul members after all Masses today, Sunday, 13th October to sign up to attend events for parishioners 65 years and over. You are welcome to take a form for anyone you know who would like to attend, as well. The forms can be returned to Cathedral House or directly to a SSVP member. All SSVP events are by personal invitation, so it is important you register with us. The form includes a data protection agreement. Saturday Morning Mass, Eucharistic Adoration and Confession

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament offers us with a time for peaceful prayer and quiet before Jesus Christ truly present in the Eucharist. You are welcome to join us every Saturday for 10:00am Mass, followed by Eucharistic Adoration 10:30am-12:00pm, concluding with Benediction. Confessions are 10:30am-12:00pm. “There is no valid reason for you to weary of receiving pardon since God does not weary of giving it.” (St. John of Avila)

Friends of the Cathedral Event, Revealing the Cathedral Archive Darlene Newman, 15 October, 7.30pm

Friendship Group: Coffee Afternoon

Catenians Meeting on 16th October

The Catenian Association invites all Catholic men, married or single, to a meeting on Wednesday, 16th October, 7.00 p.m. in 63 York Place. The Association is an international body of Catholic laymen who meet once a month and offer friendship and support to Catholic men at all stages of their lives. Sunday 20th October: Cologne Cathedral Girls' Choir to Sing at 9am Mass

On Sunday 20th October, the Cologne Cathedral Girls' Choir will sing at the 9am Mass. Founded in 1989, the choir is one of Germany’s premier youth choirs. Known for their exceptional performances, they are regularly heard during Sunday services and concerts at Cologne's iconic Catholic Cathedral, as well as at the Cologne Philharmonic Hall, on the stage of the Cologne Opera and across nearly every continent through extensive international tours. The girls will join us on the final leg of a UK tour that includes Liverpool, Stonyhurst, Durham, Newcastle, and finally Edinburgh.

Marriage Preparation Courses

Masses for the Faithful Departed

Please mark your diary and prepare to join us to remember the Faithful Departed of our parish, especially those who have died this year. We will celebrate this Mass at the Cathedral on Wednesday 13th November at 7:00pm and at St Andrew’s, Ravelston on Monday 18th November at 6:00pm. More details will follow in the coming weeks.

Second Collection for Missio Scotland Next Weekend

A special collection will be taken up at all Masses next weekend to mark World Day of Prayer for the Missions. Funds raised will go to Missio Scotland, the Pope’s charity for world mission. It helps support Catholic projects and people in need across the world.

Rosary in October

During the month of October, we will pray the Rosary after the 6:00pm Mass, Monday-Friday, in St Andrew's, Ravelston. Come along to Mass and join in this beautiful devotion for the month. SSVP Recruitment Appeal Next Sunday, 20th October

A representative from the St. Vincent de Paul Society will be making an appeal for new members at Ravelston on Sunday, 20th October. This will be an opportunity to learn about the work of SSVP in our parish and how you can sign up to participate. Each Wednesday 5.00pm Adoration & Confession

Stop in at St. Andrew’s, Ravelston on Wednesdays and spend some time with Jesus Our Lord in Eucharistic Adoration. Beginning from 5:00pm, we have Eucharistic Adoration, and a priest is available to hear Confessions until 5:45pm. Our Lord is waiting for you, so come and meet Him!

Church Statues

You may have noticed some gaps in the church of late. Some statues are away being thoroughly cleaned and restored but will be back soon. In the course of the next few months all of the statues in the church will disappear to be given the once over, restoring them to their former glory.

Stella Maris Ship Visitor Training

A number of cruise ships visit Edinburgh each summer, and Stella Maris volunteers visit the crews of as many ships as possible to let them know that the Church is thinking about them. Are you interested in becoming a visitor? If so, training will be given in St. Mary, Star of the Sea Church, Leith EH6 6AW on Thursday 17 October at 10:30am. Workshop on the Psalms and the New Lectionary

From Advent 2024, a new translation of the psalms used at Mass will be introduced. Join Fr Adrian Porter SJ to explore the psalms, their translation and use in Christian worship at a FREE workshop for readers, cantors and anyone with an interest in the psalms. New Lectionary Event Recordings on YouTube

Tune into the Archdiocese’s YouTube channel (bit.ly/ArchYouTube) to watch recorded talks from this month’s sold-out “Celebrating the Gift” event, including “What is the new Lectionary and why is it important?” by Fr. Paul Denny, “Introducing the English Standard Version” by Bishop Hugh Gilbert, OSB of Aberdeen, “Proclaiming the Word: A practical session for readers” by Fr. Adrian Porter, SJ.

New Sunday Missal

Starting on Sunday 1 December, an updated Lectionary with slightly different translation of the Sacred Scriptures (the ESV-CE) will be used in all parishes. A new Sunday Missal also will be coming out in late October, and you can pre=order it now from our St Pauls Bookshop. Also available are the Study Edition, Ambo Edition and Chapel Edition of the new Lectionary, all available at a 10% discount. Hours: 10:00am to 5:30pm, 7 days a week.

All Souls’ Day

Archbishop Cushley will offer Holy Mass for the repose of all the faithful departed who have died in the Archdiocese in the last year, especially those buried at Mount Vernon Cemetery in Edinburgh. This will take place on All Souls’ Day, Saturday 2 November, at 10:00am in the Cemetery Chapel at Mount Vernon Cemetery, 49 Mount Vernon Rd, Edinburgh, EH16 6JG.

Choose Jesus for Your Child: Catechesis of the Good Shepherd

There are still spots available in the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd atrium at The Gillis Centre in Edinburgh. Catechesis of the Good Shepherd teaches children to pray, wonder, and work while nurturing their relationship with Jesus Christ and the Church.
